Short Field Landing, Minimum Float – Piper Comanche 250

Energy management is important to all landings but especially when a short field landing is necessary. 4R9 isn’t a short field, but one of my favorites for landing practice. The Comanche is a known floater with any excess speed entering the landing flare.

The video starts on short final with airspeed adjusted to 1.3 VSO based on actual weight. This enables a smooth round out with no float and a gentle touchdown only a few hundred feed past the displaced threshold. Had this been an actual short field we would’ve braked more aggressively after the flaps were retracted.
